Death of Mrs. Luana Shofner
Mrs. Luana Brackett Shofner died at her home on Butler Street in this city Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, March 14, 1909, being nearly 82 years of age. Mrs. Shofner was born in Buckland, Massachusetts, March 25, 1827, and lived her girlhood days in that town. Later, with her parents she moved to West Hawley, where she met and finally married Sereno M. Shofner. Two children were born to them, both of whom are living; S. Allan Shofner of Manchester, and Mrs. R. M. Merriam of Ryan.
Mrs. Shofner was one of a family of nine children, and in early childhood united with the Congregational church, but later joined the Methodist Episcopal church by letter. Nearly forty years ago, she and her family came to Iowa, and settled on a farm near Sand Creek, and until the death of Mr. Shofner, which occurred several years ago, continued her residence there, but for the past twelve years, has lived with her son in this city. The funeral was held from the Methodist Episcopal church this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. R. A. Barnes officiating. Interments was made at Sand Creek.
