He was a retired part owner of A. D. Ayers Construction Company, a member of Belmont Baptist Church, Virginia Heights Masonic Lodge #324, and a 70 year member of Odd Fellows Mountain Dale Lodge #49.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie Mitchell Ayers; two sons and daughters-in-law, W. Alfred (Al) and Adele Ayers, Roanoke; Earl O. and Harriette Ayers, Marion, S.C.; four grandchildren, Gary D. Ayers and wife, Joan, Vinton; Beverly A. Cross and husband, Tom; Anthony (Tony) Ayers, all of Columbia, S.C.; and Mitchell Ayers, Marion, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Brian and Jonathan Ayers; one brother, Thomas Ayers, Goodview; one sister, Maude A. Musgrove, Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel Monday, October 15, 12:00 noon with Dr. Thomas S. Cribb and the Rev. Pembroke Hall officiating. Interment in Sherwood Memorial Park. The Odd Fellows graveside service by Mountain Dale Lodge. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
