Minna H. Lewis, 99, of Luther Manor, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Luther Manor.
Private family services will be Monday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
Mrs. Lewis was a waitress at The Julien Inn for many years and later became a dental assistant for "Doc" Stanley Lewis. In 1941, Minna and Doc were married.
She was born on March 15, 1901, in Dubuque, daughter of Reinhold and Augusta (Behrendt) Haber.
Minna was a graduate of Audubon Grade School. She took great pride in her penmanship and her self-taught knowledge of the proper usage of grammar. Therefore, Minna loved to correct others who did not use words properly. She was an independent spirit as evidenced by the fact that she drove herself to Florida every year until she reached the age of 89.
Surviving are a son, Jack C. (Mary) Jones, of Dubuque; five grandchildren, John Jones, of Idaho, Carol (Burny) Foht, Chris (Dave) Lindgreen and Jeff (Karen) Jones, all of Dubuque, and Jim (Vickie) Jones of Berlin, Wis.; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-step-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, "Doc" Stanley Lewis, in 1952; an infant son, Deneen; three brothers, John, Bill and Reinhold; and a sister, Martha.
The family would like to thank the staff at Luther Manor for all of their loving care and support.
