Susan Layne Akers, age 79, of Prestonsburg, widow of Hugh Winston Akers, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, March 9, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born July 10, 1939 in Betsy Layne, KY, the daughter of the late Arthur and Ersha Deskins Layne. She was a retired nurse, a volunteer at the Mountain Arts Center and also volunteered with the American Red Cross.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in dath by her son; Jeffrey Marcum.


Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with. Burial will follow in the Layne Family Cemetery, Harold, KY. Visitation is from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday and until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, under the professional and dignified care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial contributions in Susan's honor be made to the Mountain Arts Center, 50 Hal Rogers Dr., Prestonsburg, KY 41653Susan (Layne) Akers

She is survived by her daughters; Bridgette Marcum, Prestonsburg, KY, Kimberly Marcum, Cincinnati, OH, Theresa Tackett, Winchester, KY and Melissa Akers Adkins, Georgetown, KY, son; Brian Hugh Akers, Grethel, KY, brother; Douglas (Dotty) Layne, Harold, KY and nieces; Malisa Collins, Dana, KY and Sherry Collins, Allen, KY and several step grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son; Jeffrey Marcum.
