Robert S. Book, lovingly known as "Cobbler Bob," went home to be with his Savior on Friday, March 8, 2019 at his home in Quarryville. He was 93.

Born in Lancaster, Bob was the son of the late Leighton G. and Della (Armer) Book. Bob and his wife, Betty Jane (Herr) (Trout) Book, had celebrated 9 years of marriage in October.

After graduating from Quarryville High School, Bob enlisted in the US Army and served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant in the 5th Air Force 345th Bombardment Group 499th Bombardment Squadron, the "Bats Outa Hell."

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Bob came back to Quarryville and started Book's Shoe Repair and continued working as a cobbler in Quarryville for over 71 years, and was working in the shop up until the end of February of this year.

He was a faithful member of Calvary Independent Church. Bob loved music and in his earlier years played upright bass in the bluegrass band, "The High Ridge Mountain Boys."

Surviving besides his wife Betty is a daughter, Susan B., wife of Thomas Aaron, of Chestnut Level; two sons, Samuel R., husband of Pamela, of Strasburg, and Bruce A., husband of Kathleen, of Quarryville; and step-sons, Donald E. Trout, and Paul R. Trout. Bob has 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a sister, Millicent (Book) (Warfel) Seiler. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye K. (Boettner) Book and a son, Myrle Book.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Calvary Independent Church, 1225 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Quarryville Cemetery.

The viewings will be held at the church on Tuesday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 pm and again one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
