Harold G. Barr, 80, Juniata, passed away late Wednesday evening at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness.
He was born in Juniata, where he resided his entire life.
He was son of the late Clyde H. and Mary (Thomas) Barr.
On May 9, 1959, he married Bonnie K. Myers.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a daughter, Beth Eyer (Timothy) of Altoona; four sons: Rodney Barr (Stephanie), Randy Barr (Patty), Thomas Barr, and Timothy Barr (Amy), all of Altoona; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a sister, Joy Kay Lumadue (James); and a brother, Robert Barr.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Clapper; a granddaughter, Jennifer McConnell; a grandson, Rodney Allen Barr, Jr.; two brothers: Richard “Dick” Barr and Clyde Barr, Jr.; and two sisters: Shirley Harpster and Barbara Jeroksy.
Harold served our country and United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a gunner aboard the USS Albany, a heavy cruiser with the 6th fleet. He crossed the equator twice and witnessed the Southern Cross.
He spent his career as a Machinist/Welder at Conrail for 26 years before retiring in 1995.
Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash and Boxcar Willy. He was a faithful fan of "Ole 97", a local Johnny Cash tribute band where he befriended lead singer Randy Hunter.
Friends will be received on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Funeral Service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona with the Pastor Hud Crossman and Wendell Myers, Sr. officiating.
After services, the family would like to invite everyone to the Lighthouse Men’s Ministry, 224 Woomer Road, Altoona, 16601.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lighthouse Men’s Ministry.
