Benjamin Knapp born 1761, served as a Private and Lt. Col. in Butler's Company of the Corps of Rangers. Family legend says that Benjamin came from New York State. He and his family came into Niagara in 1783 and settled Lot # 66, Colchester Township, The New Settlement, Western District. Benjamin Knapp is listed in the U.E.L. Executive List, R.G. 1L7, Vol. 52A and his name appears on the Survey of Townships of Gosfield and Colchester by Patrick McNiff in 1793-94 as a holder of a farm lot in Essex County. Benjamin and his wife Katherine raised a family of eleven children. A land petition dated 14 April 1807 was submitted by Elizabeth Quick, daughter of Benjamin Knapp, U. E. Loyalist, to Matthew Elliott of Malden. She was recommended for a grant of 200 acres as a daughter of a U.E. Loyalist, 27 February 1810. Benjamin died some time after 1823 and is buried in Colchester Township, Essex County, Ontario.

Benjamin Knapp's 3rd great grandparents Nicholas Knapp and Elinore Knapp arrived in the Thirteen Colonies On the Flagship Arbella of the Winthrop Fleet in 1630.
