The Washington State death record for William Henry Dennis gives his age at the time of death as 69 (born about 1857) and his father's name as "William A." Dennis. It gives his death date (11 Sept 1926) and records that he was buried in Marshland Cemetery in Snohomish County. (Washington State Archives, Department of Health, Death Index, 1907-1960, 1965-2017.)
Although there are some inaccuracies in the information in the death record, there is no question that William Henry Dennis is the son of Andrew John Dennis and Mary Elizabeth (Brady) Dennis. William's father Andrew John Dennis, died in Minnesota in 1894, shortly after William married, and well before their first child was born. The children never knew their grandfather, and one of the children provided an incorrect name of their grandfather for their father's death certificate.
William Henry Dennis was born 7 February 1855 in Chicago, Illinois. His wife Charlotte Zempel (or Sempel) was born in Germany and moved with her family to Minnesota where she met and married William Dennis. All three of their children (recorded in the 1910 U.S. Census) were born in Minnesota. Although the 1900 U.S. Census records only the first of their three children, the 1905 Minnesota State Census lists the three children born in Minnesota, and they are with him in the 1910 U.S. Census in Washington State. William's mother, Mary (Brady) Dennis, was living with him and his family in 1900 and 1905 in Minnesota. She moved with the family to Washington State, but died there in 1910 before the U.S. Census of that year was taken.
William, his wife Charlotte, and their three children appear in the 1910 U.S. Census for Ward 2 of Everett, Snohomish County, Washington. A decade later at the time of the 1920 U.S. Census, William is still living in Snohomish County. His wife died in 1912, and in the 1920 Census, he is identified as a widower, and a married daughter and grandchild are living with him.
Charlotte (Zempel) Dennis and William Dennis are the parents of three children: (1) Aurelia Matilda (Dennis) Rainbolt; (2) Hazel (Dennis) Daggs; and (3) Cecil Carl Dennis.
