James Henry Broyles, 99, of Culpeper died on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Our Father’s House Christian Home. He was born October 14, 1919 in Brandy Station, VA to the late James Wesley and Annie Wayland Broyles.

Mr. Broyles’ family started their own dairy farm in Brandy Station in 1915 and upon his father’s death he took over and operated the farm until 1986. He was a member and past deacon at Bethel Baptist Church and was a lifelong member of Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department. He was also past president of the County Farm Bureau, being an active participant in most farm organizations and was a past school board member.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Compton Broyles; two children, Connie Ann Barber (Richard) of Richmond, and Charles “Chuck” Broyles (Alice) of Brightwood; three grandchildren, Casey Barber Gibson (Justin) of Diamond, OH, Christopher Barber of Richmond, and Rebekah “Becki” Broyles of Brightwood; three great grandchildren, Hailey Marie, Bryce Jameson and Morgan Aleene Gibson; a special nephew who was like a son, Jim Marshall; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Col. Harmon E. Broyles, Wayland Broyles, Alice Marshall, Eva Woods and Mary Brown; and a grandson, Zachary James Broyles.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Adam Meisberger officiating.

Interment will follow at Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
