Obituary, published 14 Sept. 2016 in Coeur d'Alene Post Falls Press:
Bettie Jean Bockstruck passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with here family by her side.

Bettie was born June 25, 1935, in Malad, Idaho, to OrleeAnder and Roma Westergard. At age 15, she met and married country music singer Ferlin Husky, and she wrote songs, performed and made a hit record with him.

Being married to an entertainer, she met and befriended many stars of the day such as Elvis, Marty Robbins and Little Jimmy Dickens just to name a few. She had friendships from her days in Nashville that lasted a lifetime.

Moving to California in the early ’60s, she had many career starts as a single mother with five children. When her brother and parents moved to the Coeur d’Alene area, she followed, looking for a place to raise her family. When Bettie relocated to Bayview, Idaho, she found the area a great fit. She brought a touch of class to Bayview. She met and married Larry Bockstruck, who was the true love of her life. She owned restaurants and lounges, making friends and employing many people. Between ownerships, she worked for others using her natural service skills successfully.

After retiring in 1997, she picked up her paint brushes and created beautiful art. Bettie and Larry enjoyed many winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., where they had many close friends.

Son Bill writes, “Our family is like a puzzle of a person. We have many parts that fit together to make a complete picture. But every time we lose a member of the family it is like losing a piece of the puzzle. With our mom Bettie, I think she was the heart. I don’t know if I have ever met anyone with as much compassion, love, forgiveness, generosity and a great outlook on life. She will be truly missed and it will take our entire family to fill that missing puzzle piece and still come up short. She was loved by all. One of the best things that happened was when she married my Dad. She put the heart in the family puzzle. We love you Mom!”

From daughter Daveana, “You were the best Mother in the world and the most beautiful woman on the planet. You and I and Kevin were like the Three Musketeers and we will so miss our adventures together. You’ve done so much for me that even if you’d have lived another thousand years, I could never have repaid you.”

Bettie is survived by twin brothers, Bob (Sue) Westergard and Bill (Sylvia) Westergard; and children Dana (Marty) Stone, David (Tina) Husky, Daveana (Kevin) Huff, Bill (Velma) Bockstruck, Steve (Roxzene) Bockstruck, Donna (Ken) Dunsworth and Belinda Stewart.

At a later date, to be announced, there will be a celebration as Bettie and Larry are rejoined in their beloved Lake Pend Oreille. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
