George Michael Dysinger, age 67, passed away on February 12, 2019, in Kingwood, Texas, after a long and valiant battle with ALS. His graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville, Texas.
George (Mike) was born January 30, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, to George Edward Dysinger and Greta Poston Dysinger. Growing up with his father in the Air Force saw him attending schools in Sanwich, England; Abilene, Texas; and Keflavik, Iceland; and graduating from Gatesville High school in 1970. He attended Texas A&M earning a PhD in Education administration in 1979. He taught 10 years at A&M in the college of engineering, from 1977 to 1986. George then moved to Houston and taught at Alvin community college for a year. His next job was working at SIP engineering in 1988, followed by Parsons Engineering from 1988 to 1993 and finally BEI Engineering from 1993 to 2016.
George had a passion for many things. He started collecting baseball cards at a very early age and never stopped. He amassed over 2000 cards, as well as other memorabilia. You can ask anyone in the family about his Fiesta Ware. Every Christmas we received Fiesta ware. He had over 50 Fiesta Ware napkin rings in every color. Ranch Oak furniture was another favorite, filling many rooms in his house. George loved 1968 Ford Mustangs. Car parts were all over his house and garage. He collected items associated with Keflavik, Iceland and cherished many special memories from when he lived there. Model airplanes and military memorabilia held fond memories as well. Bottles of Tabasco Sause, candy t-shirts, dishtowels, you name it, he had it and or gave it to someone he cared about.
He had done work with genealogy back to the 1600’s. He has cousins everywhere. If he knew you were taking a trip he would say “you have a cousin in a graveyard there”. Beatles music was also one of his loves. He had an extensive collection of Beatles memorabilia. He even designed a quilt that someone pieced together for him of Beatles items. We all knew him to be brilliant, kind, quirky, silly, sweet, very opinionated, and extremely eccentric. One of a kind for sure!
He was preceded in death by his father George E. Dysinger and his brother Glen E. Dysinger.
George is survived by his mother, Greta Boales of Belton; sister, Margaret Campbell of Robinson; sister in law, Sherrie Dysinger of Waco; nieces, Mary and Hannah; nephews, Wayne, Shaun, and Nathan; step sister Janice Putska and husband Jeff, along with their sons Andrew and Zachary Pustka; many aunts, uncles and cousins along with numerous friends and coworkers.
