He was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, class of 1953. He served 20 years active duty in the US Army with service in Korea, Europe, Southeast Asia, and various locations in the continental US. He served in the Corp of Engineers and later in the Medical Service Corp. Among his military awards and decorations were the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Korea Service Medal; UN Service Medal; National Defense Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster; and Ranger TAB.
He was predeceased by his father, COL Newton Wesley Jones USA, KIA in WWII; and his mother, Elizabeth Dudley Jones. He was survived by his wife of 59 years; a daughter and her spouse; a son and his spouse; and four grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on February 19, 2019, at the Princeton United Methodist Church, followed by interment at the Rocky Hill Cemetery.
