Irma Cannon Petersen was born to the late Leon and Verna Cannon October 20, 1938 in Otway (down east of Beaufort) and died Friday, August 6, 2010 after a long illness with cancer.

She graduated from Beaufort High School in 1956 and moved to New Bern and worked for the Carolina Tel & Tel where she met and married Richard Petersen, a marine from Canton, Ohio. After moving several times with Rick's job, Irma started working for First Union National Bank in Charlotte. They ended up in Akron, Ohio where Irma worked for Firestone Bank (who eventually merged with J P Morgan Chase). Irma went back to school, getting a degree in business and banking. She started as part time teller and ended up as Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager. She received a broker's and insurance license. Irma earned several awards and trips with her sales in investments. She retired as Branch Manager of Bank One in the Acme branch #1 on West Market Street, Akron. She did charity work with the Boy Scouts, Special Olympics and cancer fund raisers.
