Virginia Lucille Monts, age 89, of Savoy and formerly of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2009) at the Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana.

Memorial services celebrating and honoring her life will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 3:30 p.m. with Reverend Cindy Jones officiating.

Family and friends may gather at the funeral chapel from 2:30 p.m. until service time for visitation.

Virginia’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, The Windsor Non-denominational Church, PEO Chapter CF or PEO Chapter AR. Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the visitation or services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Virginia was born in Charleston on April 8, 1919, the daughter of the late Jess and Grace (Nickles) Babbs. She was united in marriage to Jack A. Monts on May 2, 1942, in Abilene, Texas, and they were married for 61 years prior to his death on March 14, 2004.

She is survived by two children, Carol Loyet and her husband Jerry of Savoy and Stephen L. Monts of Bourbonnais; two granddaughters, Leslie Loyet and Lindy Lewis and her husband Mike, all of Chicago; a brother, Jesse Babbs and his wife Mildred of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents and husband Virginia was also preceded by a brother, John Babbs.

Virginia was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter CF. After her move to Savoy, she attended The Windsor Non-denominational Church and also placed membership with PEO Chapter AR. Virginia enjoyed being a homemaker and creating a warm and loving home for her family.

She enjoyed crafts and was extremely creative in her designs, was a marvelous cook, and will be fondly remembered for her delicious pies. Playing bridge was her favorite pastime and many afternoons were spent enjoying a game or two with friends.
