Helen Keyes was born on March 8, 1928 in Aberdeen, MS, to the late Leone Smith and Dewey Keyes Brewer and was moved to Greenwood when she was nine months old. She graduated from Greenwood High School, attended Blue Mountain College, and later graduated from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
She worked as a home economist for Mississippi Power and Light in Jackson, a bookkeeper for Leflore Bank in Greenwood, and was a homemaker. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, including the Partners in Faith adult Sunday School class and the Wednesday Bible study group. Helen Keyes was also a life member of the Junior Auxiliary, a member of the Greenwood Garden Club, and a past president of the Town and Country Garden Club. She loved gardening, especially her roses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lee Craig, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Craig Pace and husband Earl of Columbus, MS; grandson, Jonathan Craig Pace and wife Jamie of Madison, MS; granddaughter, Jennifer Allen Pace of Huntsville, AL; great-granddaughter, Katie Reeves Pace; sister, Leone Brewer Jones and husband Henry of Florence, AL; one nephew, and two nieces.
Pallbearers will be John Stewart, Lee Pruett, Bobby Knox, Howard Davis, Miller Arant, Charles Wright, and Robert Cole. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or The Palmer Home for Children.
