Wanda Jean Bowman Shelton, 71, of Chuckey, the Horse Creek Community, passed away Thursday morning at her home.

She attended Union Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband: Carroll Lee Shelton Sr.; one son: Timothy Franklin and his wife, Daun, of Cape Canaveral, FL; one daughter and son-in-law: Kimberly and Zachary Neas of Afton; step-son: Carroll Shelton Jr.; grandchildren: Kenya and Edward Franklin, Jessica Neas, Channing and Schuyler Roberts; step-grandson: Daryl Ray Shelton; eight great-grandchildren: Dwayne and Drew Pursley, Jasmin and Jonathan Franklin, Bailey Grace Graham, Serenity Bolton, Austin and Jacquelline Roberts; four sisters and a brother-in-law: Bertha Landers of Afton, Doris Metcalf of Greeneville, Mary Bowman of Nashville, TN, and Barbara and Allen Belt of Afton; sister-in-law: Norma Fox of Virginia; one brother-in-law: Terry Cutshall of Chuckey, TN; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Hurley Kennedy Bowman and Flora Mae Hensley Bowman; four sisters: Marcella Reynolds, Betty Grindstaff, Joann Greene, and Linda Cutshall; one brother: Jimmy Bowman; daughter-in-law: Claudine Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. Saturday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 o'clock Saturday evening in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Lowell Bowens, the Rev. Dolphus Cutshaw, and the Rev. Lynn Neas will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty-Stevens at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to Shelton Mission Cemetery for the 2 p.m. committal service. Active pallbearers will be Daryl Shelton, Schuyler Roberts, Terry Cutshall, Rick Bowman, Zackary Neas, Carroll Shelton, Jr., and Brandon Bolton. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Hawk, Dr. John Boys, Dr. Daniel Lewis, Dr. Thomas Thompson, Dr. Dharman Patel, David Mathes, Mike Lane, Cel Hixon, Frank Schallock, David Landers and David Gosnell.
