Ruth C. Connis, 59, Niagara died peacefully Thursday, September 12, 2002 surrounded by her family.
She was born April 13, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Rose and Roland Rhodes. She grew up in Niagara, Wisconsin and was a graduate of the Niagara High School Class of 1961.
Ruth married Charles Connis on February 2, 1963 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Niagara. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Ruth worked for the Village of Niagara as Deputy Clerk Treasurer. She also worked at the Niagara Area Credit Union as a loan officer for many years before leaving to pursue co-ownership of RJS Inc. and Julia Rose Creations bridal shop.
Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's parish. She taught 10th grade CCD and served on various parish committees throughout her life, as well as being active in the Cursillo movement. Ruth was very involved with Friends of the Arts and worked to produce many of the musical theatre productions in Niagara. Ruth served on the Niagara School Board and was involved in various civic organizations.
Ruth's hobbies included reading, ceramics, camping in their motorhome, spending time at their home in Pinellas Park, Florida, Christmas with her family (her veal parmigiana was legendary), and traveling with Chuck. Ruth was fortunate to extensively travel in the United States and abroad.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Chuck; her children, Cathy (Mike) Ley of Kewaunee, WI, Chris (special friend Mary Wetzel) Connis of Green Bay, WI, Shawn (Sara) Connis of Rota, Spain, and Kelly Connis of Green Bay, WI; her grandchildren, Andrew, Adam & Aubrey Ley, Dustin and Rowan Connis, and Caleb Connis & Danny Miller; her sister, Rita (Bill) Bond, Iron Mountain, MI, her special mother-in-law Mary Connis, Kewaunee, brother-in-law Jim (JoAnn) Connis, Beaverton, MI, nephew David Peterson, and niece Angela Paprocki.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Rose & Roland Rhodes, her father-in-law James Connis, aunts & uncles and special friends; Judy Goudreau, Eddie Sundquist, Dick Rouse and Ron Dowd.
Friends may call at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Niagara from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will be no visitation prior to the service on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Niagara.
