Amy Marcia Biermacher, age 62 of Grand Rapids, was called to heaven in the early morning hours of Tuesday February 19, 2019 with loving family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald J. and Marcia E. Biermacher; brother Joseph; and sister Emily. Amy is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Andrew) Saari; brothers Ron (Joan) Biermacher, Andrew (Ellen) Biermacher; sisters Julie Biermacher, Elizabeth (Brian) Heslip, Anne (Jack) Stegehuis, Molly (Scott) Denning; grandchildren, Eddie Michael Saari and Austin Andrew Saari; and many special, much loved, nieces and nephews. Amy was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Ronald and Marcia Biermacher. She was the oldest daughter of 9 children. Growing up, Amy enjoyed spending endless hours outdoors fishing and getting into trouble wherever she could find it. She brought home almost every wild creature she came across and loved them dearly. She lived a full and unrestrained life before moving to Syracuse, NY in her early 20s where she gave birth to her greatest gift, her daughter Sarah. Wanting to be close to her incredible family, she moved home and planted her roots back in Grand Rapids where she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She battled this awful and debilitating disease with everything she had until her last dying breath. Giving up her job as the supervisor of patient registration at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center was a huge heartbreak for her. Nonetheless, she continued to enjoy all life had to offer. She maintained the most inspiring optimism and never complained. She shared an unbreakable bond with her daughter, Sarah, who was dedicated to caring for her every need. Together, they travelled, laughed, cried and shared in all of life’s beauty together, until her final moment. Amy touched every single soul she met and was the purest form of inspiration, gratitude and fearlessness. There will be a hole in our hearts forever, as she will be loved and missed by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, free of the body that failed her. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 21, 5-8:00 PM, with a vigil at 7:30 PM, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 22, with a visition one hour prior to the mass at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2750 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Rev. Msgr. Terrence Stewart presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Right to Life of Michigan, 2340 Porter St. SW P.O. Box 901, Grand Rapids, MI 49509-0901.
