Clarence Earl 'Junior' Bishop Jr. passed away at his home in Oklahoma City on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the age of 91 years.

Junior was the son of Clarence Bishop & Katy (Simmons) Bishop, the first of their four children. He was born on October 22, 1927 in Stuart, Oklahoma, and brought up in Hughes County, in Stuart, Little River, and Holdenville. He graduated Atwood High School in 1946.

He married Virginia Lee Vail in Holdenville on his 22nd birthday, October 22, 1949, then joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country for four years. He was stationed in Korea when that war ended, and returned to the States to complete his military service at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, where he and Virginia made their home, along with their daughter, Renee.

In 1958, Junior went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City, and in 1982 he retired. Virginia worked for the FAA also, and while waiting for her to retire, Junior stayed occupied with various other activities. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment, like bulldozers and dump trucks, for various companies, and he enjoyed traveling the country transporting cars for various Oklahoma City dealerships.

He loved playing ping-pong. He'd learned to play with serious competitors in Korea, and for his entire life was virtually unbeatable. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer, and when Virginia retired,
they enjoyed taking their boat and motor home down on the Texas side of Toledo Bend Lake, and spending as much time as possible enjoying those activities. They especially enjoyed the company of close friends who spent time there with them.

Junior genuinely loved people, and was much loved in return. He was witty and charming, had a great sense of humor, and loved to tease and joke. He enjoyed going out to eat, meeting new people, and visiting with wait staff. His church family was very dear to him. To his siblings, Junior was their beloved Big Brother, and through the years he never tired of teasing his sisters. His wife and daughter were the light of his life. For the full threescore and ten years allotted by the Lord, Virginia was his true love and devoted companion. Renee was her daddy's little girl, but she was also a bit of a tomboy, Junior's sidekick, and the two of them spent more than six decades having too much fun. Junior was an enthusiastic and active member of Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church for over 62 years under four pastors: Rev. Billy Wilkerson, Rev. M. D. Deal, Rev. R. D. Whalen, and his current pastor, Rev. Mark Parker.

In later years and failing health, Junior never lost his wit and humor. He was always ready to get out of the house and into the car, and go anywhere. He still loved visiting with folks at church and folks at restaurants, and could never get enough of Braum's ice cream and milkshakes. Younger family members still challenged him now and then to a game of ping-pong, and they still lost. At times when he didn't feel up to going, he still kept his cheerful disposition. Although he is greatly loved and will be greatly missed, there is still comfort from the precious memories and enduring love that Junior leaves behind.

He is preceded in death by:
His parents, C. E. & Katy Bishop;
Two sisters, LaVerne and Yvonne;
Nephew Keith and niece Kellye;
Three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his loving:
His wife of almost 70 years, Virginia, of the home;
Their daughter, Renee, of Oklahoma City;
His brother, David Bishop;
Several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends

Viewing will be held 4-8 pm Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes (4000 SW 119th St) with burial following to Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Services to honor the life of Clarence will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church (6501 S Walker Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73139).
