The sad news reached our city today that Rev. Rogers, a former pastor of the Congregational church at this place, had died at his wife's home at Clarks, Neb., from blood poisoning. Rev. A. J. Rogers was born in Orange, Conn., April 26, l866. While quite young lie was taken south and lived for a time at Macon, Oa. He removed north, worked oh a farm In Connecticut and attended the public schools. He was a graduate of Carlton college, Minn. He taught school In Iowa for a number of years. He graduated from the Chicago Theological Seminary In 1894, and in May of the same year came to Columbus and became pastor of the Congregational church. Mr. Rogers was married In this city, June 2, 1808, to Miss Clara M. Morse, of Clarks. One child has been born to them . He preached his farewell sermon last April and went to Harvard, Neb., and took charge of a church there. He was spending a few days at Clarks when he was taken sick which resulted In his death. He was expected here next Sunday to preach to his former congregation. Mr. Rogers lived In Columbus for six years and during that time he was found to be a Jovial, kind hearted, and sympathetic man. His Christian character compared favorably with his sacred calling. He was always a great friend of the young and a general favorite of juvenile circles. He has passed away in the prime of life and had lie lived he would have accomplished much good work in the cause of religion and humanity.
