Death's Doings
Mr. Casper Endres a widely-known citizen of this place, died suddenly last Monday morning, Sept. 24th, at about 10:30 o'clock, from an attack of cholera morbus which terminated in inflammation of the stomach and bowels. He was first attacked early last week, and by Saturday had so far recovered he was able to talk with his friends in his usual happy way, but inflammation set in and he failed rapidly until death intervened.
Mr. Endres was born in Province of Nassau, Germany, November 11th, 1823. He came to America in 1853, and located in Brookville in 1854. In 1855 he returned to the old country, and was married in Vienna, Austria, returning here with his wife. Three children were born to them, two of whom, Louis A. and Samuel, are living and have grown to manhood. Mrs. Endres died in 1860. About two years later Mr. Endres was married to Miss Barbara Young, of Indiana, Pa., a sister of Mr. Jackson Heber and Mrs. Michael Murphy. To this last union were born three children- John, Frank, and Willie- all of whom survive their parents, Mrs. Endres having died about 1879.
Mr. Endres was in business in this place about twenty-two years and by his sturdy honesty and uprightness in business affairs secured for himself an enviable reputation as a man of the strictest integrity. His word was as good as his bond, always. He was of a sunny disposition, genial and sociable at all times, and had a kindly word for everybody. He was industrious and thrifty, and accumulated considerable wealth during his life.
His remains were buried in the Brookville cemetery this (Wednesday) afternoon, the funeral being attended by a large concourse of people.
