The Burial of Beavers

Sensational reports have been circulated and printed to the effect that the relatives of Beavers were prevented from burying the body of the murderer; that the corpse was dragged from church yard to church yard only to meet the same denial; that it was finally interred secretly in the woods, etc. All such reports are untrue. The facts are simply these: the Body of Beavers was taken from the vault in Springdale Cemetery, this city, at 9 o'clock at night after the date of execution, and removed to the residence of Beaver's brother-in-law, Mr. William Gordon, in Saluda township. The body remained at Mr. Godon's house until the night of Tuesday following when it was quietly interred in Sharon Church graveyard, in Republican township, where it now lies, and it is to be hoped, will be permitted to remain, in the rest of eternal infamy. There is a rumor floating about that mr Davis, Veaver's father-in-law, refused to permit the body to be buried beside that of Beavers' wife, in Scott county, but we have no authentication of the report, and give it simply for what it is worth. It may be added that other members of the Beavers family are buried in Sharon churchyard, and that the murderer's grave is near that of his mother. We are glad to record these facts, as in opposition to the reports first alluded to for the sake of the good name of the people of the western portion of the county, who, although a unit in the belief that Beavers justly deserved the doom meeted out to him, still had no disposition to manifest opposition to putting the body out of sight and out of mind as quickly as possible.
