Obituary for Jake Conroy Bloom
Retired Captain Jake Conroy Bloom, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in New Braunfels on Thursday, February 14, 2019. Jake Conroy Bloom was born on July 27, 1940 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Roy and Ruth Bloom. Jake and his wife Pam Bloom were baptized in Christ in Moore, Oklahoma at Moore Church of Christ in 1980.

Jake Conroy Bloom had many accomplishments. He graduated from Central State University with a Master’s degree in Chemistry and Biology. He entered the Air Force with his skill as a Missile Control Launch Officer and served in the Vietnam War. He retired after 20 years with numerous honors. Later, he retired from the US Postal Service. Jake ended his working career as an economics professor at Austin Community College. Jake was a Christian and he taught and brought people to Christ. He wrote many bible studies and poems.

On October 5, 1966 he married the love of his life, Pamela Gail Bloom in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They had three children Kim Cheri, Julie Amber, and Jacob William.

Jake (Poppy) loved and lived to the fullest.

Jake was a family man and a good provider, he took his kids camping and on many vacations, including Six Flags, Disney World and Germany where he was last stationed. He made the trips fun planning to see everything they could each day using Poppy’s clipboard of fun.

He made music tapes for traveling and we can’t forget the bright colored vacation t-shirts with the Bloom name stamped across it for everyone at the theme park to see the Bloom’s are Back!

He made the holidays fun and he loved helping Pam cook the meals, his specialty was macaroni salad. He was an avid sports fan and shared that love of sports with all he knew. He led the Bible studies with his wife and kids and made sure they were at church on time. Once he started having grand-kids and great grand-kids, he continued the role of teacher by sharing the gift of Christ and God’s word with them. He left a legacy to be remembered. He lived to love.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruth Bloom, siblings Judy Willmett, Dorothy Jason, Roy Bloom, Donald Paul Bloom, Betty Praytor, Cathryn Lane, Caroline Hunt, and Walter Bloom, sons-in-law Alejandro Nava, Robert Griffin Jr., and granddaughter Brittany Durick.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Pamela Bloom, children Kim Nava and Chad Ormand, Lou and Julie Durick, Jake and April Bloom; brother Delman and wife Linda Bloom; grandchildren Amber and Elizabeth Ormand, Kala and Kara Nava, David and Jacob Griffin, Julia, Jack and John Paul Durick, Cailey, Jacob Adam and Chloe Bloom; great grandchildren Kimber and Kallianne Mitchel.
