HICKORY - Jack Coleman Williams, 80, of Hickory, died May 7, 2005 of Palliative Care-
Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Born Feb. 7, 1925, in Maiden, he was a son of the
late: Thomas Coleman Williams and Anna Augusta Fish Williams.

A member of First Assembly of God, Hickory, he was employed with the North Carolina
State Highway Patrol, ATF and city of Hickory as a magistrate. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II, serving from Aug. 30, 1942 to Jan. 11, 1946.

Mr. Williams graduated from Maiden High School in 1942, served in the U.S. Navy Sea-
bees from 1942 to 1946, and then graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1951. Jack
played professional baseball for six years with a number of minor league teams, includ-
ing a stint with the Hickory Rebels. He was a patrolman with the North Carolina State
Highway Patrol until becoming an officer of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agency
in 1955. After his retirement from the ATF in 1976, he served as a magistrate with the
City of Hickory until 1987. Jack was an active member of First Assembly of God church
in Hickory and was known for his great desire to glorify Jesus Christ with his life.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by four sisters, Polly Coble and Inez Hudson of Hick-
ory and Thelma Bumgarner and Macie Bumgarner of Maiden; and a brother, Henry Will-
iams of Valdese. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ann Williams.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years. Johnsie Lentz Williams of the home; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Michael Coleman Williams and Robin Glass Williams of Dayton, Ohio,
David Alexander and Barbara Bowlin Williams of Newton and Gary Lentz and Cindy Yonker
Williams of La Grange, Ky.; a daughter, Nancy Gayle Williams of Boulder, Colo.; a sister,
Gladys Sigmon of Newton; six grandsons, Jonathan Coleman Williams and Micah Elliott of
Dayton, Ohio, Aaron Alexander Williams of Newton, and Daniel Jon Williams, Jordan Mich-
ael Williams and Thomas Lentz Williams of La Grange, Ky.; and five granddaughters, Beth-
any Lynn Williams and Kelsey Ranae Williams of Dayton, Ohio, Christine Ann Williams of
Newton and Lauren Elizabeth Williams and Maria Grace Williams of La Grange, Ky.

The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Brian Campbell at 4 p.m. Monday at Healing Springs
Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Graveside military rites will be con-
ducted by American Legion Post 48. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday
at Healing Springs Church.
