Reba Dee Mathis

REBA DEE MATHIS Died February 27, 2012 in her apartment at Sunrise Senior Assisted Living where she had lived the last 6 years surrounded by her children and Sunrise family. She was buried next to her husband of 50 years, Robert B. Mathis, in Longview, Washington.

She was born in Briggsville, Arkansas June 17, 1917 and married Robert B. Mathis December 23, 1937. They immediately moved West where they eventually settled and raised their family for over 40 years in Longview, Washington. Reba is the mother of R. William Mathis of Napa, California and Linda L. Itzen of Riverside, California. She has 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

The early years were spent raising her family that included an extensive garden and food preservation where neighbors gathered in her kitchen shelling peas, breaking beans or cleaning chickens. Homemade biscuits, gravy, homemade jellies and canned fruit as well as fried chicken and homemade pies were her daily specialties. Her church family in Longview was a big part of her life. When she moved to Riverside with her husband Bob in 1988 to be near her children, she also enjoyed the fellowship of her church bible study and women's circle group as well as her new friends in the retirement apartments.

She leaves a legacy of being a thoughtful and prayful woman who was patient and non-judgemental of others. She carried with her a cheerful and positive spirit who was ready to help others. You never heard her say a harsh word about others and kept her hurts to herself.
