Dorothy Irene (Tucker) White, 79, Scranton, KS, went home to be with our Lord on April 29, 2013, at Midland Hospice House after many years of battling cancer.
She was born January 24, 1934, the daughter of Lawrence and Beulah (Neely) Tucker. She attended Rural No. 3 grade school and graduated from Scranton High School in 1952. She attended Clarks Business School. She worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Hallmark Cards for 10 years before retiring. She was also her husbands partner and bookkeeper for D&D Farm and Trucking.
She was a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church where she served on the council as treasurer for many years and on several committees. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women where she served as vice- president and president for many years. She also was the head of the Annual Memorial Day Dinner for 17 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter Christina Lynn Hulsopple, and step-daughter-in-law, Rose White, of Texas.
Dorothy married Duane L. White Sr. on August 23, 1973 in Holton, KS. He survives of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Linda White, of the home; Cindy (Louis) Parks, Topeka; Marcina (Merle) Wall, Overbrook; Mary (Daniel) Lamb, Inola, OK; and step-son Duane White, Jr., Houston, Texas; 7 grandchildren, Sandy Parks, Johnny (Angela) Parks, Matthew (Demaris) Wall, Topeka; Valerie Cooper, Overbrook; Carl Wall, Scranton; Jesse Lamb, Inola, OK; and A1C Elizabeth (Jonathan) Lamb-Hall, Malstrom AFB, Great Falls, Montana; one step-granddaughter Odessa White, Farmers Branch, TX; 10 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren and 3 step-great-great grandchildren, three brothers Donald (Delpha) Tucker, Topeka; Dean (Elizabeth) Tucker, Carbondale; Duane (Linda) Tucker, Lutz, FL; and a sister Dolores Hurt, Topeka; 14 nieces and nephews, and many family and friends.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Scranton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Scranton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Carey Funeral Home, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Scranton United Methodist Church or Midland Care Hospice and sent in care of Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413.
