Funeral service for Bettie Sawyer, age 86, of Shelbyville, will be held in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Brother Bobby McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery. Mrs. Sawyer passed from this life Thursday, February 7, 2019, after an extended illness at Tennova Healthcare-Shelbyville with family by her side.

Born January 20, 1933, in Shelbyville, TN, she was the daughter of A.B. and Bessie Lee Conley Smith. On September 25, 1950, she married Edmund “Fuzzy” Sawyer, and raised two daughters; Sherry and Rhonda.

Bettie loved planting flowers, eating breakfast with friends at Hardees, and being a “Red Hat Lady”. Most of all she loved her family, and taking care of others.

She was preceded in death by: parents A.B. and Bessie Smith; husband of 50 years, Edmund “Fuzzy” Sawyer; sisters, Millie Ruth Welch and Bobbie Jo Turner; and great grandson, Joseph N. Johnson, Jr.

Survivors include: daughters; Sherry (Frank) Frame of Shelbyville, and Rhonda (Jim) Copley of FL; grandchildren, Kelly Johnson, and Blair Greenroos; great grandchildren, Shelbee Johnson, Ellie, and Adalind Greenroos; great great grandchildren, Harmony and Rhiley Johnson, and Luna Stevenson; and sisters, Faye Johnson, and Hilda Smith.
