Mrs. Pamela Bartholomew Dawson died January 12th, 1899 and was buried in the Del Norte Cemetery January 13th. Funeral services were conducted in the Presbyterian church by Rev. John McLean.
Mrs. Dawson was born June 11th, 1816, and would have been 83 years old her next birthday. She was married to Albert Dawson at Lexington, Illinois in 1837 and was the mother of ten children, five of whom are still living - two in Colorado, Mr. L. S. Cornell and A. W. Dawson. Her husband died about 8 years ago and was buried at Del Norte.
Mrs. Dawson was the daughter of John Bartholomew of Indiana. Her parents died when she was very young and she was raised by her grandfather, General Bartholomew, who was a prominent figure int he Indian wars of Indiana and Illinois.
The death of Mrs. Dawson bring to a close a long and eventful life. She was a life-long member of the United Brethren church, and in the prime of life was one of its most active and useful members. She belonged to that type of grand old Christian mothers which the country produced two generations ago. It can truly be said of her that she lived for others. In the days when she had at her command much of this world's goods, she dealt them out to the needy with a liberal hand.
In addition to raising her own children, she was a mother to a great number of others whom she took to her home and cared for. But her labor and cares are over, and she is at rest. "She hath done what she could," and she has doubtless heard the Master's voice saying, "Well done."
