Edward Hayes Died Yesterday - Veteran Drug Clerk and Hotel Man Succumbs After Lingering Illness

Edward J. Hayes, one of Frankfort and Clinton county's best known men died at 2:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the family home, 306 West Morrison street, death resulting from a complication of ailments following an illness of seven months duration.

Mr. Hayes had spent the greater part of his life in this city, for many years having been employed in local drug stores as a pharmacist and for many years, owned and operated the Hayes hotel on North Main street. He had also been engaged in the real estate business but for several months his health had been such that he was unable to leave his home.

Frankfort Resident 40 Years

Mr. Hayes was a native of Carroll county and was a son of David and Elizabeth Hayes. He was born October 26, 1856, and was past 70 years of age. For more than forty years he had been a resident of Frankfort.

On December 23, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Hover and the union was dissolved by the death of Mrs. Hayes, June 3, 1898. One daughter, Mildred, was born to them.

On May 26, 1901 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma A. Louden, whose death occurred January 19, 1926.

Mr. Hayes was a member of the First Christian church of this city. He was widely known to the traveling public and theatrical people with whom he dealt during the fifteen years he was in the hotel business. He enjoyed a wide acquaintance of friends in this city and was held in high esteem.

Surviving besides his daughter, Mrs. Coy Drukemiller, of Delphos, Ohio, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Rusie & Weidner funeral home at two o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. E. E. Mooreman officiating, assisted by Q. A. Kennedy. Interment will be in the Green Lawn cemetery.

In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Hayes, his body will be kept four days before burial. More than five years ago he arranged for the Plainfield, Ind. Quartet to sing at his funeral and these arrangements will be carried out.
