Mary Ann was buried with her mother's maiden name of Sainsbury. Her parents had married June 10, 1884 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Elizabeth being William's second wife in a plural marriage. The persecution of the Federal Government against members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at that time was so great, most plural marriage wives were in as much danger of arrest as their husbands. The parents chose to bury Mary Ann under her mother's name rather than recognize that her father had more than one wife. Mary Ann's death is recorded in "Utah Deaths and Burials, 1888-1946" with her mother listed as the only parent.
