KINGSPORT - Gerald L. Flanagan,70, of Kingsport passed away Friday (February 1, 2019) at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Gerald was a graduate of Church Hill High School. He received a B.A. from ETSU. He was a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Air Force. Mr. Flanagan was the Senior Captain (training division) for the Kingsport Fire Department, serving 30 years. He also served as Fire Chief at BAE for a few years. He was an avid sportsman, an artist, and a collector.

Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Emory "Twig" Flanagan; mother, Laura June Flanagan (Rowlett); brother, Dwight Anthony Flanagan; and infant daughter, Angel Flanagan.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy Flanagan (Darnell) of the home; sons, Jeremy Flanagan & wife Angela, and Jonathon Flanagan & wife Sarah; granddaughters Olivia Flanagan, Victoria Flanagan, and Taylor Flanagan; sister, Donna Almany & husband Phillip; brothers Kenny Flanagan & wife Renee and Roger Flanagan & wife Michelle; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday (February 5, 2019) from 5 to 7 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Ferguson and Chaplain Barry Carr officiating.

Gerald will be laid to rest on Wednesday (February 6, 2019) at 1 p.m. in the Garden of the Well at East Lawn Memorial Park. Military rites will be provided by American Legions Posts 3/265. Serving as pallbearers will be Leland Flanagan, Jim Wernke, Matthew Darnell, Greg Jones, Jason McMurray, and Isaac Gilliam.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142) ([email protected]) (1-800-873-6983).
