Andrew Martin Banister passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at age 97. Born in Franklin County, Georgia on October 2, 1921, to the late Prue Madison Banister and Annie Ruth Fowler Banister, Andy grew up on the family farm in Hart County, Georgia, the oldest of 4 children. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army where he served in World War II in North Wales as a medic with the 129th General Hospital. After returning from the War, Andy attended the University of Georgia, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1950. He remained an avid Bulldog fan all his life. He had a career in both agriculture and the Georgia State Department of Court Services. Andy was married for 61 years to Ouida Yarbrough Banister who died in 2014.
Andy is survived by daughter Carol Adams (husband Greg) of Marietta, grandson Andrew Gregory Adams (wife Robbie) of Charlotte, North Carolina, step-granddaughter Marcie Adams Grebner (husband Todd, son Colten) of Ooltewah, Tennessee, step-grandson Jeff Adams (wife Sharon, daughter Ming) of St. Petersburg, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Andy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Cedartown, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: First United Methodist, 201 Wissahickon Ave., Cedartown, GA 30125.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 11:00 a.m. at Northview Cemetery, Cedartown, GA, with Reverend Mike Broome officiating.
