A. Howard Burtch, widely known Fonda attorney, died unexpectedly this morning In the Littauer Hospital, where he had been a patient only a few hours. He was born in Fonda June 5. 1884. the son of Frank F. and Cora I. Phillips Burtch and was a descendant of early pioneer settlers of this country. He was a member of Fultonville Lodge of Masons. Johnstown Chapter RAM, Holy Cross Commandery. Knights Temolar in Gloversvllle and Cyprua Temple AAONMS of Albany. He was a member of the Colonial Club of Johnstown and the Community Club in Fonda. He was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church and served as a trustee He was a lifelong Republican. Atty. Burtch was graduated from the Fonda High School in the class of 1900 He entered Philltps-Andover Academy at Andover, Mass., and was graduated in 1903. Later he entered Harvard University for one year and then studied law in Fonda under Atty. J. S. Sitterly. He was admitted to the-bar in
1907 and became associated with Atty. Sitterly in the practice of law until the death of Mr. Sitterly on Jan. 31. 1916. Since that time he practiced alone. On June 10. 1908 he was united in marriage to Miss Edith MacLachlan. Atty. Burtch confined most of his work to surrogate's court and served as referee in bankruptcy
for Fulton, Hamilton and Montgomery Counties for six years. He was also attorney at one time for the State Agricultural Department of Montgomery County. He also served for sometime as president of the Fonda Board of Education. During World War 1 he served on the Liberty Loan Committee and was a member of the Home Guard. In later years he has served as a member and secretary of the Montgomery County Civil Service Association
