The son of Henry and Sally Rogers, his father was publisher of the prestigious National AEgis, a Worcester, MA newspaper which printed from 1801 to 1831.

Henry and a brother Charles Owen Rogers followed their father into the newspaper business and became highly successful owners of the Boston Journal, which published from 1833 until it merged with the Boston Herald in October 1917. Two of Journal's most famous reporters were Charles Carleton Coffin and Ben Perley Poore .

Henry married Susan Antoinette Hersey, the daughter of Lewis and Susan, on October 31, 1841. They were the parents of the following children: Josephine, born in 1842; Addie, born in 1844; Mary, born in 1846; Susan, born in 1847; and Henry Baldwin, born and died in 1849.

Henry died very suddenly of an unknown illness two days after his father, who passed on Feb. 9, 1855. Joint funeral services were held from Henry, Jr.'s Milton, MA home followed by interment at Forest Hills cemetery.

Since the above was in type [Feb. 12, 1855 death notice for Henry Rogers, father of Henry Rogers, Jr.], we have learned that his son, Mr. Henry Rogers, Jr., one of the proprietors of the Boston Journal, died yesterday [Feb. 11th] after a very brief illness. The funeral of father and son will take place on Wednesday from the residence of the latter in Milton. Mr. Henry Rogers, Jr. was a gentleman of considerable ability, and was highly esteemed and respected in the business community. His age was 45, and he leaves a wife and children to mourn his loss.

Death of Mr. Henry Rogers, Jr. – On Saturday we announced the death of Mr. Henry Rogers, senior, father of Messrs. H. & C.O. Rogers, publishers and proprietors of the Boston Journal. Today we are called on to record the death of Mr. H. Rogers, Jr., the senior proprietor of the Journal, age 43 years. Mr. Rogers has been connected with the Journal almost from the time of its establishment, and those who have been associate with him in business relations speak in terms of high commendation of his character.
