Cemetery Record: Anne Daviess, 72 years 1 mos 5 days, she was a widow
****************
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Oct. 5 -- Mrs. Anna Davies, the aged and penniless daughter of Thomas Ford, governor of Illinois from 1842 to 1846, is a patient in a hospital in Logan county. She will be transferred soon, however, to the Soldiers' Widows' Home at Wilmington, being eligible as her father was a soldier in the Black Hawk war, while her grandfather was killed in a battle with Indians in 1802.

Governor Deneen and the state board of public charities became interested in the case of Mrs. Davies, and they decided that the state of Illinois owed her consideration. She will be transferred to the Home as soon as she can be removed.

Mrs. Davies is extremely sensitive concerning a suggestion that she be looked upon as an object of charity. The family resided, for some years, at Waterloo. George, six years older than Thomas, became prominent in Illinois affairs, and, but for his death, probably would have become United States senator.

Thomas Ford attracted the attention of Daniel P. Cook, after whom Cook county was named, and who obtained the grant of 300,000 acres for the Illinois - Michigan canal.
