Don Edwin Brown, 81, was born February 27, 1937, in Houston, Texas, and died on January 26, 2019, in Texarkana, Texas, following a short illness.
He attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1955 to 1961, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1959 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1961. Don married Elizabeth Baugh on May 30, 1958. After they graduated from UT-Austin, his career in the oil industry took him all over the world. A licensed Professional Engineer in both Oklahoma and Texas, Don designed and built pipelines with Williams Brothers Engineering Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He told stories of working in Syria, Egypt, the Soviet Union, Singapore, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, and many other places. After retiring from the corporate world, he established his own company, Brown Technical Consulting. He wrote a textbook and taught advanced hydraulic courses to young engineers.
Don had an amazing knowledge of world and especially Texas history. He collected and restored antique sewing machines. He was a skilled 42 player, and played once a month with a group in Texarkana for many years. He tried to pass his mathematical expertise to his grandchildren whenever the opportunity arose.
Don was a faithful member at Walnut Church of Christ in Texarkana, where many knew and talked with him as he arrived early to be in his regular pew before services began.
Don is survived by his wife of sixty years, Elizabeth, of the home; daughters and husbands, Susan and Tony Weaver of McLeod, Texas, and Cindy and Thomas Danner III of Norman, Oklahoma; and grandchildren, Tess Danner, and Amber, Gus and Logan McClain.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Chapelwood Funeral Home with Patrick Cannon officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
