Mrs. Davis was born in Yancey County and had lived most of her life in Asheville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Myrtle Young Murphy; her husband, William G. Davis, who died in 2000, and by her siblings, Nell Riddle, Grace Boone and Howard Murphy.
Mrs. Davis worked in sales at Bon Marche Department Store and at Tru-Fit Fashions. She had been an active member at Westwood Baptist Church and Skyland Baptist Church and most recently at Newbridge Baptist Church.
She lived independently in her home in North Asheville until six months ago and she was always knowledgeable about current events. With her passing, the Democrat Party lost a strong member and advocate. She loved her family, flowers, gardening and cooking.
She is survived by her son, Jan Davis and his wife, Ann, and their son Richard, and his wife, Stacy, all of Asheville, and a sister, June Hedlund of Marietta, GA.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 p.m. at Newdale Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Yancey County.
