Hyrum Lavon Rees, 94, of Idaho Falls, died July 1, 2000, at his son's home in Midvale, Utah.

He was born March 2, 1906, at Grant, Idaho, to Rees Hyrum Rees and Frances Ann Young. He spent his early years and was educated in Grant and Moore, Idaho. After receiving his education, he joined the family plastering business.

On September 11, 1929, he married Bernice Burke in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

They made their home in Venice, Calif., for seven years, and then returned to Idaho Falls. They lived in Richfield, Utah, where he was a distributor for the Shell Oil Co. They again returned to Idaho Falls in 1949 and made their home there. He was a master-plasterer and was known for his craft and talent. He helped build many buildings in the Idaho Falls area and was proud of his work on the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He had worked as the Bonneville County Planning and Zoning Inspector. His wife died May 24, 1990. Five years ago he moved to Midvale, Utah, to live with his son, David.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a temple officiator for 23 years. He served in the High Priest Group leadership and as stake High Priest executive secretary. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Idaho Gem Society. He enjoyed cutting and polishing rocks and gems, and he loved fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Ann R. Heath of Hayward, Calif.; a son, David Rees of Midvale, Utah; a sister, Aileen Frances Lewis of Lewisville, Idaho; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee; a son, Gordon Lavon; seven brothers; and two sisters.
