RICHARD HARWOOD
Richard A Harwood, 59, of Aledo, died Saturday, May 29, 1993, at Mercer County Hospital.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, the Rev William Petrillo officiating.
Burial was in Aledo Cemetery, where military services were conducted by Mercer County VFW Post 1571.
Fippinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church.
He was born March 22, 1934, in Galesburg, a son of Aubray & Lucile Olson Harwood. He attended Alwood Schools. He married Bonnie Allen Green Feb 8, 1974 in Aledo.
He was employed as an operating engineer of Local 150, Rock Island, and retired in February of this year.
He was a United States Army veteran serving in Germany.
He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Oakview Country Club and a life member and past commander of VFW Post 1571.
He was a former member of Clover Township Fire Department in Woodhull and former member of Woodhull Jaycees.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard Jr of East Moline; two daughters, Laurie Irwin of Rock Island and Sherri Berg of Hudson, WI; four grandchildren; one sister, Anne Holmgren of Taylor Ridge; and one brother, Gary Harwood of Santa Monica, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Pallbearers were Terry Peck, Tab Balmer, Danny Lee, Jerry Anderson, Mark Blythe and Charlie Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Anderson, Howard Scott, A.J. Gerard, Wayne Falline, George Beck and John Guthrie.
