John C. Talbot, Jr. (1816-1899) Bowdoin 1839 of Lubec, was admitted to the bar in 1840. In 1860 he and brother George were listed as Trustees of their high school Washington Academy in East Machias. A Democrat, he filled various municipal offices before election to the Maine Legislature. He served for many years in the Legislature, including as Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives from 1853 to 1854. In 1876, he was the Democratic Party's nominee for Governor.
