Clark Hildred Allen was born on 21 August 1896 in Waynesville, North Carolina (some records indicate his birthdate as 21 August 1897), the son of Rev. David Rufus Allen (1859-1937) and Mary Lou "Lula" Norwood Allen (1868-1946). He was raised in Waynesville, and later, while working as a railroad switchman, lived in Spartanburg, SC, and later Taylor, Michigan. He was married to Blanche Lee Anderson (dates unknown). He died from a cerebral hemorrhage due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on 6 July 1935 in Taylor, Michigan at the age of 38. He was interred at Woodmere Cemetery.
