Alan’s elementary and secondary education took place in Lorain. He attended and graduated from the former St. John’s College in Cleveland; St. Meinrad Seminary in St. Meinrad, IN, becoming an Oblate of St. Benedict. He furthered his studies and graduated from Borromeo Seminary in Cleveland. From there, he attended and graduated from Case Western, obtaining his Master’s Degree in Education.
He began his career in education teaching at the former St. John’s School in Lorain. From there, he worked for the Cleveland Catholic Diocese in various roles, taking the role of President of Lorain County Catholic Board of Education for one year. Alan moved on to the Public School system in Medina and upon retirement, was Associate Principal at Medina Junior High.
Survivors include his brother, Norm; and his sister, Jayne; and several cousins. As his health began to decline, Alan relied on his caregiver, Mary Turner, for his outstanding and dedicated home health care.
Preceded in death were Alan’s parents, John and Emily Palko (nee Cverna). The family will receive friends at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain, OH 44053, on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m., Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating.
Private burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for the St. Peter Parish Liturgy Commission. Funeral arrangements and services by Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services
