Monica E. Steiner, 85, Dickinson, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Monica’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Dickinson with Fr. William Ruelle as celebrant. Entombment will take place at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.
Monica Wandler was born November 8, 1933 in rural Stark County at Schefield to Peter and Anna (Glasser) Wandler. She was raised on her parents farm. Monica attended St. Pius Grade School for four years and St. Elizabeth School for four years in Lefor. She graduated from Dickinson High School in 1952.
She worked at the hospital and several cafés during summer months, and had also worked at Red Owl Grocery Store. Monica married Arnold Steiner on October 18, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, and together made Dickinson their home raising three children, Dale, Allen and Wanda.
Monica worked as a seamstress and did alterations, managed a rental property for 45 years and worked as a bookkeeper and a flooring technician for 30 years.
She enjoyed raising a garden & flowers, reading, sewing, dancing, listening to old time and country music, camping and fishing vacations. Monica was a 60 plus year member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Monica is survived by her children, Allen (Tami) Steiner, Dickinson and Wanda (Ken) Weflen, Dickinson; six grandchildren, Tina (John) Parkson, Jeremy (Chelsie) Stradley, Aric Steiner, Devin Steiner, Jennifer Weflen and Amber Weflen; six great-grandchildren, Breanna Parkson, Rebecca (Sean) Osland, Christopher and Elizabeth Stradley, Halle Weflen-Stephens and Kaysen Carlson; one great-great-grandchild, Emmet Osland; two siblings, Bernice Zastoupil and Jack (Carrie) Wandler; brother-in-law, John Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold on May 12, 2014; son, Dale in 1999; one sister, Marilyn Martin; one brother-in-law, August Zastoupil; and niece Diane Zastoupil.
