Ray A. Kivler 72, of Salem Township and formerly of Hunlock Creek, passed away on Jan. 16, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded with love by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Born in Nanticoke, he spent most of his life in and around Hunlock Creek. He attended Northwest High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966. While in the Army, he served a tour of duty in Vietnam where he earned many commendations including the Purple Heart.

He especially loved dancing the jitterbug, square dancing, and the two step, following the Northwest Rangers and catching up with Elvis in Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Lamoreaux Dorshefski; stepfather John Dorshefski Sr.; and brothers: Elwood (Jake) Kivler and David Kivler.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Gensel Kivler; daughters: Angelene Kivler and her husband, Michael Deppen, of Manheim, Jacqueline Savage and her fiancé, Eric Ginder, of Nazareth, son, Micah Kivler and his wife, Leandra, of Dallas; grandsons: Ernest Sheetz Jr. and his wife, Kristie, Hayden Sheetz, Carson Savage, Mason Kivler, Matthew Andreas; granddaughters: Cora Savage, Abigail Savage, and Kyra Kivler; great-grandson, Riley Sheetz; sisters: Loretta Meyers of Benton; Joanne Schaefer, Tennessee; Sharon Carlson, Utah; and Barbra Short, Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Charles L. Cease Funeral Home, 634 Reyburn Road, Shickshinny. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will be in Bloomingdale Cemetery, Ross Township.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ray's name can be made to PA Wounded Warriors Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17112.
