Lawrence Richard “Larry” Cureton, 93, died January 21, 2019, in a local care facility.
Born on May 23, 1925 to Darius A. and Daisy Myrtle Wheeler Cureton in Lorena, Texas, Mr. Cureton was reared on the banks of Bull Hide Creek, Texas. He was Texas born and Texas proud all of his life. He was a 1944 graduate of Lorena High School. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was manager of the First City National Bank of Houston for twenty-five years, retiring on January 1, 1979, when he moved to Lake Charles. There he and his wife started a cultured marble business, B & L Marble, which they operated for the next eighteen years. They sold the business in 1977, enabling them to enjoy their favorite pastimes, fishing and traveling. Mr. Cureton was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Glenn Cureton and wife Robin of Ft. Worth, Texas; his daughter, Penny Cureton of Houston; a brother, Robert Cureton of Waco, Texas; four grandchildren and two step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of thirty-eight years, Barbara Rutherford Cureton; and a son, Wesley Cureton.
The funeral service will be at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Steve James. Interment will be at Rutherford Cemetery.
