Billy was my brother. He was amazing in nearly every way. I will add a proper Bio for him when I am less emotional and better prepared. He has been my lifelong friend. We were close which I will always feel blessed and grateful for. Just two weeks ago he seemed to be a little out of sorts and not like himself. He went to a clinic, they sent him to a hospital and they diagnosed him as having brain cancer. It proved to be inoperable and terminal. I am aching as he passed away just two hours ago. All I can say for now is the world is a lesser place than it was when he was here.

Last night at 8:20 I lost my brother Bill. He was my life long friend and a better friend can't be found. As children we fought like all brothers do. We stuck up for each other and we never questioned loving each other. We both served our nation in the USN. We both married and married well. We had our children and shared many good and great times together. Through all of the journey we were always close and always knew we could count on one another to be there when needed. I won't attempt to describe how empty I feel today or how much I do and will miss him. I will say it was my great good luck in life to be born into a loving family with great parents, wonderful role models, a sister that couldn't be better and my brother Bill who was a great brother, husband, father and just a damn good man. I love you Billy.

BILL OSBORNE - "2005 Teacher of the Year"
Have you ever wondered how your awards committee selects one teacher to honor as THE Teacher of the Year? Well it's not easy when we have so many wonderful teachers in our school system, as well as, many more who have retired. Our Beech Grove School system has indeed been blessed with dedicated talented teachers. The committee carefully reads about all the hard-earned degrees, outstanding awards and achievements of those nominated. But more importantly it's what the students, past and present, share with us that enables us to find that ONE special teacher. The one who not only teaches, but touches the hearts and changes lives.
Bill Osborne is our "2005 Teacher of the Year" because his students told us he is that kind of teacher. Bill gave our committee two brief paragraphs about the past forty years of his life. Love was mentioned several times; the love of his wife of thirty-five years, Ann; the love of his four children, Barry, Ryan, Wendy and Leslie, all college graduates or presently attending college; the love of his job, students and the staff he works with at Beech Grove High School. Love, respect and fairness are also the words used by his students when they nominated him for this year's Teacher of the Year.
We were told that Mr. Osborne takes the time to make every student feel good about themselves. No matter how much time it takes each student gets the special attention and guidance to achieve whatever the goal may be for them. He stands tall as a role model dealing fairly with everyone and has earned the respect of many because he has treated them respectfully. His students may not know that he served in the Navy for three years in Vietnam or that for twenty-three years he was an IUPUI Associate Professor who taught evening classes while teaching days at Beech Grove High School. As a teacher at Beech Grove High School, since January1975, Mr. Osborne has had coaching positions with the freshman wrestling team, boys and girls tennis teams, drama and speech teams. He has taught English, Mythology, Drama, Speech and Etymology and is presently the head of the English department. He enjoys life to the fullest whether it building and racing cars, boating, fishing, playing basketball with his kids, listening to music, feeding seagulls or sharing ideas of the future with his wife. We were even told that if you need your lawn mower repaired Bill is the man to call. Those two little paragraphs we mentioned ended with a statement that says it all about Bill; 'With a wife and family like mine, friends that I have made in teaching and the students that have filled my life, how could an individual ask more out of life!"
Well, our Awards Committee feels the same, with a man and a teacher so loved and respected we could want for no more and we are very proud to have Bill Osborne as our "2005 Teacher of the Year."
P.S. Bill, where are the seagulls?
