He was raised and received his education in Hominy before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp, serving two tours in Vietnam. During which time he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.
Upon returning to civilian life in Oklahoma, Al attended and received an Associates Degree from Bartlesville Business School. For 33 years, Al was a car salesman in the Tulsa and Dallas areas; including owning two of his own car lots. In 2010, Al relocated to Owasso, where he managed and later owned the Acapulco Golden Tan, LLC for eight years. While living in Texas, Al was baptized on March 18, 2001 at the Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Mesquite, TX. He was an active member of AA for 24 years. Al was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Hominy Buck fan. His favorite entertainer was Elvis. Al enjoyed traveling, but most importantly spending time with his family!
Those that survive include his siblings - Ann Cason and husband Tom of McKinney, TX, Fern Ballard of Skiatook, Noah Deist of Sperry and Dorothy Woodruff and husband Larry of Allen, TX. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who called Al their Uncle Gooney and several great nephews and nieces.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a sister Lydia Sanders and a niece Patricia Foreman.
Funeral services for Al will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 6th in the sanctuary of Calvary Worship Center in Hominy with Wayne Brown and Kenny Christian officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the U.S. Marine Corp will follow at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery.
