Mary A. Norsworthy, 96, of Dallas, Texas, died on Monday, January 7, 2019, in Stuttgart, Germany. She was born October 30, 1922 in Waco, Texas to Nick and Eugenia Metropolis Andrews, both of whom had emigrated to the U.S. from Greece. Her father was a restaurant owner-operator in Central Texas. Mary grew up in Waco and graduated from Waco High School. After graduation she met Ralph E. Norsworthy of Hubbard, who was employed at the time in Waco, and they soon became engaged. Shortly before Ralph was to be deployed overseas into combat as a fighter pilot in the US Army Air Corps, they were married on March 22,1943 at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco by H.H. Hargrove, pastor. After the end of the war they settled in Dallas and raised their two children, Ken and Nancy. They were lifelong members of First Baptist Church Dallas, where they were both active in service for many years. Mary held several clerical and administrative positions in her career, including during the war, working for the Social Security Administration and for several businesses in Dallas after the war. She worked for many years in the insurance claims department at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas, retiring at age 70. During all of her work life she was an active homemaker and loved to entertain family and friends in her home. She, above all, loved time spent celebrating at family gatherings with her large group of siblings and their family members. They all cherished the time spent together at these joyous occasions, which often included delicious traditional Greek dishes. Mary was predeceased by her husband and parents, as well as her brothers, Pete, Angelo, Doffie, James and John; and her sister, Katherine. She was survived by her children, Kenneth A. Norsworthy (Rebecca), Anchorage, Alaska, and Nancy Voelker (Juergen), Stuttgart, Germany; and grandchildren, Andrew Norsworthy (Amanda Sweet), Sarah Norsworthy and Christina Voelker; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, 18 January, in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, followed immediately with burial.
