Caroline Bailie Scott, longtime Montevallo resident, died on January 13, 2019 at the age of 104 at Fair Haven Nursing Home in Birmingham.

She was a native of Augusta, GA and was preceded in death by her parents, John Tilkey Bailie (1870-1944) and Caroline Gibbes Bailie (1879-1957).

Siblings: Margaret Bailie (1909-1991), John Tilkey Bailie (1912-1996) and Dr. Allston Gibbes Bailie (1923-2010).

Paternal Grandparents: James Glover Bailie (1820-1893) of Ireland and Nancy Courtney Bailie (1828-1959) of Ireland.
Maternal Grandparents: Washington Alston Gibbes (1841-1927) of Columbia, South Carolina and Elizabeth Forster Hunt Bailie (1851-1890) of Nashville, Tennessee.

Graduated from Tubman High School in Augusta and attended Augusta State College and later graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC.

After graduation, she remained at Converse College as Assistant Treasurer in the Finance Department. In 1939 she married Albert Lafayette Scott (1902-1979) and moved to Alabaster, where she began her family, and then to Montevallo in 1952.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her 5 children: Caroline S. Walters (John) of Blairsville, GA, Albert L. Scott, Jr. (Marsha) of Atlanta, GA, William G. Scott of Baton Rouge, LA, Margaret S. Jones (Charles) of Vestavia, and Robert W. Scott (Betty) of Elgin, TX. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Scott was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Alabaster and served on the Shelby County and City of Montevallo Library Boards as well as a number of other civic and school groups.

There will be a private family burial service at Nabors Cemetery, Shelby County, Alabama.
