She was raised in a Mennonite church and had a devout faith in the Lord and his plan for her life. She loved family, especially children and was blessed with many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was a single mom and worked several jobs to make ends meet, including being a housekeeper and bank teller. Later in life she enjoyed crocheting, doing cross word puzzles, reading, and baking for her grandkids. The past year and a half as she was residing at the Eden Center, Irene enjoyed bingo and many other activities.
Irene is survived by her daughter Sally (George) Shetler, step daughters; Mary (Paul) Zehr and Cynthia Gonzales, step son Danny (Carolyn) Zook, 24 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; John Mark Zook and Luke L. Zook, sister; Edith Yoder and brothers; Elmer, Peter, Raymond and Joseph Gerber and one great grandchild Johnathan Shetler.
A funeral service is being held on Friday August 28, 2015 at 12pm noon in the chapel of the Kalkaska Funeral Home. Final visitation will begin at 11:00am, and a luncheon will follow in the lower level of the Funeral Home.
